Moving through fragments of imagery that capture distinct eras and specific environments of the past and present, the juxtaposition of "old and new" shifts perception from one state to another, evoking a sense of "sudden insight" (epiphany) in the viewer. Through comparison with the viewer's own experiences, it produces an effect of "gradual realization" (gradual insight). The artists leave the unknown information—the developmental process between these temporal points and the future trajectory of things after these points—to the viewer's imagination. This allows the juxtaposed images to generate narrative potential. Through this ongoing process of reflection and recognition of experience, viewers linger over and deeply grasp the meaning the imagery seeks to convey.
